How It All Started

Tranquil Tummy Confections is a member of the Southwest Michigan Chamber of Commerce

Hello, Friend! My name is Samantha, but you can call me Sam. I started Tranquil Tummy Confections in 2021, as a cottage food bakery out of my home in South Haven, Michigan. My mission with Tranquil Tummy is to provide sweet treats for everyone, regardless of wha dietary issue they may have because everyone deserves something sweet. Everything on the menu is gluten and dairy-free. Some treats are vegan, soy-free, egg-free, sugar-free, and/or peanut-free, so hopefully I have something that can fit your needs! When I was a senior in high school I had my own side business baking cakes, brownies, cookies, and more, with traditional baking ingredients. However, I put it on hold during my time in college to focus on my studies. Three years after graduating college, I was diagnosed with gastroparesis, a rare digestive disorder where the stomach muscles become completely or partially paralyzed. Mine were only partially paralyzed but I was still put on a mostly liquid diet, and when I could stomach solid foods, I could not have gluten or dairy.

I am incredibly thankful to say that my condition went into remission in 2020. While I became healthier and had more energy, I decided to start baking again to pass the time during lockdown. I started to remember how much I loved it, and posted photos of it on social media. Former customers encouraged me to start selling my baked goods again as a full-time job and this time, I was considering it. I started to reflect on my own experiences with trying to find gluten and dairy free products, particularly sweets, that tasted good. After learning that an estimated 32 million Americans have some sort of food allergy, the most common being peanuts, soy, dairy, tree-nuts and gluten, I felt like catering to them would be the right direction to take this in. I started vending at local craft shows and festivals two years ago and continued ever since. I am happy to say that my business has been growing. I recently became servsafe certified and will start working out of a commercial kitchen in 2024.  Tranquil Tummy Confections is also a member of the South West Michigan Regional Chamber of Commerce and in 2024, I had the honnor of being nominated for their Rising Star in Business Award. Thank you for visiting and I hope you say happy, healthy, safe and sweet!
